GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Participates in facility operational activities related to swim lesson instruction. Includes the following, but is not limited to membership, customer relations and management, instruction of swim lesson classes, housekeeping, nursery, youth activities, aquatic activities and coordination of services with other departments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Must be at least 16 years of age
EXPERIENCE: Customer service experience and or Aquatic experience preferred. Must have previously been trained as a swim instructor/lifeguard or complete ATC SI Training/Lifeguard Certification within a reasonable time.
SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Communication skills, public speaking skills, organizational skills, customer relation skills. Must be able to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information related to membership and employee situations. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must possess good social skills and poise. Must display good follow-through skills.
American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED (R.17)
PHYSICAL/SPECIAL DEMANDS:
1. Must be able to swim 25 yards while holding a 10 lbs. brick unassisted
2. Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes with no hands unassisted
3. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously either freestyle or breaststroke, demonstrating rhythmic breathing, unassisted
4. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs., move up to 315 lbs. with assistance, and position self to reach up to 7 feet.
5. Must be able to move about the facility 33-66% of an 8-hour workday.
6. Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 33% of an 8-hour workday, tolerating from 30 minutes up to 1-hour sessions.
7. Must be able to tolerate and demonstrate safe body mechanics including bending, turning, kneeling, stooping, crawling and twisting positions.
8. Must exhibit good organizational, numerical, alphabetical, reading, and writing skills.
9. Must be able to problem solve and respond quickly and calmly in stressful situations.
10. Must be able to hear to respond to telephone, overhead intercom, employee and member inquiries and in turn communicate effectively with employees and customers.
11. Visual acuity required to read reports, and for the monitoring of members/guests, including their operation and use of Amarillo Town Club equipment.
12. Cognitive skills required for reasoned interpretation of assessment and in all program needs along with good coordination and fine motor skills in grasping, adjusting controls and typing on computers.
13. Ability to ascend/descend 22 steps up to 10 times daily.
14. Possible exposure to clients with infectious conditions.
